The Internet Works, So Why Won’t Teams, Outlook, or a Cloud App Load?

“But the Internet Is Working” Does Not Always Mean Everything Is Working

One of the most frustrating office technology problems is when some things work and others do not. A staff member can open a news site, but Teams will not connect. Email loads on a phone, but Outlook on the desktop says it cannot reach the server. A payment portal works for one employee but not another.

  • Sign-in or account problems: The app may look like a network issue when it is really an authentication issue.

What to Check First

Before restarting everything in the office, try a calm checklist:

  • Check whether the problem affects one person, one device, or everyone.
  • Try the app from a phone hotspot to see if the office network is involved.
  • Confirm the cloud service status if the vendor provides one.
  • Restart the affected app and device.
  • Check whether other Microsoft 365 apps are affected.
  • Note the exact time, device, app, and error message.
  • Avoid changing router, DNS, or firewall settings unless someone qualified is reviewing the impact.

That last point matters. Quick network changes can accidentally break printers, phones, security cameras, VPNs, payment devices, or other cloud services.
